About You Name: Amy Simmons Age: 23 Where did you find us?: URL on former Pensieve (OOC). RP Experience: Remus Lupin and Madam Pomfrey on former Pensieve, Remus Lupin on Aparecium. RP Level: Intermediate? Not certain, but I began in 2005. How often will you be on?: Daily with perhaps the odd exception.
The Basics Name: Remus John Lupin Nicknames: Moony Age: 18 Birthday: 10 March 1960 Bloodline: Half Former/House: Gryffindor Occupation: Member of the Order of the Phoenix Alliance: Dumbledore
In Depth Appearance: Remus' amber eyes are his most prominent physical feature, unsurprising since the shade of his hair could most accurately be described as mousy brown. One would not glance twice at Remus; although not without his charm, and far from hideous to the eye, no aspect of Remus distinguishes him from any muggle, or human, in the biological sense of the term, more generally. Remus is of short to medium stature, and somewhat gaunt. On the evening of his 18th birthday, Remus was presented with the gift of a lengthy overcoat, and he tends towards using this on a daily basis during the autumnal and winter months. Often, it appears he has not slept for a number of days, sporting bags underneath his eyes.
Remus is prematurely aging due to his unfortunate condition, lycanthropy, of the sort which is not clinical, and is not based upon the delusion of transformation, but upon physical transformation. The hairs upon his head are mere years from greying. Remus is, furthermore, developing facial hair, underneath the nose, although this is barely perceivable due to his young age. Remus has a warming smile, perhaps his most attractive feature. One would certainly, if, unknowing of Remus' biological age and asked to estimate, overestimate his age.
Celebrity Being Used: James Utechin/David Thewlis (age dependent).
Likes:
Chocolate. Daydreaming of the moment he receives an acceptance letter for a post as a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Dumbledore. His dearest friends. Reading. The sense of having been a pioneer for lycan youngsters. The sense of having shunned biology and history to battle for his beliefs.
Dislikes:
Death Eaters. Dementors. Fenrir Greyback. Losing loved ones. Pain. People who believe lycans are inferior to non-lycans. Transformations.
Strengths:
Having lost numerous loved ones, Remus has a determination to avenge each dearly departed one. He can resist temptation and was therefore not allured to the Death Eaters. He is perceptive, and despite his desperation to contribute to the defeat of the Death Eaters, he is a caring person. He is rational under the pressure of battle. The hatred in his heart for those who have brought about the death of his loved ones ensures when he raises his wand in combat, the result is powerful.
Weaknesses
Can engage heart before brain. Has not, as yet, killed, preferring to stun or defend. Is often self-loathing due to his condition. Once one knows which 'buttons to press', it is not difficult to cause him immense distress. Personality:
A caring individual, Remus Lupin is considerate of his colleagues, family and friends, and has a natural air of approachability. He has a thirst for knowlege, both the acquisition and imparting thereof, although he has yet to achieve his ambition of becoming a professor, but at the tender age of 18, that is to be expected. Although he is not a naturally aggressive character, if the situation requires it, he can battle. He is an incredibly loyal person, in particular to those whom he loves, namely individuals such as Sirius, James and Peter, from whom he first experienced friendship. One could describe Remus as a courageous man, although this is not immediately apparent, and he spent much of his youth shadowing Sirius and James, shy, studious, and adopting a 'take it with good grace' attitude towards bullying and harrassment.
Although he is confident enough to aspire to a career of a professor, and is therefore unafraid to express himself verbally before an audience, he is by no means self-assured. During moments of extreme pressure, or heightened emotion, he can often engage his heart before his mind, but in general, he is a dreadfully rational human being. Remus can resist temptation, for example, the Death Eaters were convincing in their argument for alligning himself to Voldemort, but he decided against this. He disregards the opinons of society at large, and is, instead, a free-spirit; society expects him, as a lycanthrope, to be evil, and to behave accordingly, but he refuses to do so. History:
Remus John Lupin was born on March 10, 1960, to a poor family, of agricultural stock. Remus was the product of the love between a muggle (Mrs Lupin) and a wizard (Mr Lupin), leaving Remus a half-blood, an aspect of himself which he later embraced. The family raised him in the West Midlands of England, which to contextualise it, borders the east of Wales, although he developed neither a Welsh nor a regional accent. They had barely enough money to provide for Remus, although they sold both livestock and horticultural products. Although Voldemort was gathering supporters at this point, Remus was protected from this, until the age of six years old.
In the year 1966, Remus' life altered irreparably. Mr Lupin had engaged himself in a vicious argument with a man one would be ill-advised to viciously argue with, a man, if one applies the term 'man' loosely, for he was more of a beast, or a hybrid of the two, named Fenrir Greyback. Fenrir Greyback was a notorious lycanthrope, and Remus' humanity was a sacrifice that Mr Lupin was willing to pay for his own survival. On the evening of the following full moon, whilst Mr Lupin protected himself by remaining inside their farmhouse, Remus, trembling with a combination of cold and fear, magically bound to a tree, so as to prevent escape, fell victim to the wrath of Fenrir Greyback. As young Remus wept and nursed his wounds, the curse surged through his blood-stream, wiping him of his humanity.
At that point, there was no alternative option for Mr Lupin; Mrs Lupin must be informed of her son's condition, and his (and their son's) status as wizards. Accepting both (although, as could be expected, she needed to be convinced that her husband was neither attempting to fool her, nor clinically insane), and the financial sacrifice which must be made, Mrs Lupin, together with her partner, kept a 'Hogwarts fund' and (shortly before his acceptance letter arrived), they discovered to their delight, and relief, that they could afford the tuition and board fees for Hogwarts. Remus' first year, and the majority of his second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was tainted by secretive, monthly visits to the Whomping Willow, planted by the honourable Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of the establishment, to guard Remus' secret. Sirius Black, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew developed an awareness of his condition, and eventually, Remus confided in them. Rather than shunning him, as Remus had expected, they resolved to become animagi, to accompany him during his transformations. Remus was a studious boy, and achieved all O or E grades in his NEWTS, graduating in the summer of 1978. One could say he was 'legless' on the evening of his graduation, but this was Death Eater amputation-induced rather than alcohol-induced!
Let's See What You've Got Role Play Sample:
No synonym of 'pain' could do adequate justice to the sensation of experiencing a silver dagger being inserted into one's back. Excrutiating for the majority of humans, but for a lycanthrope, it could, potentially, prove fatal. It burned, and as the strength began to sap from his body, he grasped the handle of said dagger, which burned his flesh (but that was a minor irritation in comparison), withdrew it from his back, and discarded it immediately. His survival depended upon a previously brewed potion, although this meant a venture to the dungeons, it could reasonably be assumed, the most Slytherin-ridden area of the castle. One searing pain through his chest, one final, sharp intake of breath, and Remus fell to the floor of the dungeon.
"Avenge me! It is not our time to be reunited in death, avenge me, Remus!"
Recognising Marin's voice, he returned to life; it had been a near-death experience, not death, it appeared, and, trembling and in a cold sweat, he consumed the antedote, allowing it to combat the poison coursing through his veins. Within moments he had rejoined the fray.
