In Depth
Appearance: Kathryn has always been quite petite, her 5’2” and slight frame no exception now that she was out of school. Her dark auburn curls, having grown significantly since school let out, were now down past her bottom, usually warn partially swept up with a clip. She had a small selection of skirts and blouses which she interchanged daily. She owned only two pairs of pants, but barely wore them.
Her best feature, her greenish-brown eyes, now hidden behind a pair of black thick-framed glasses, tend to change with her mood. When she is angry or scared, they are so dark they are almost black. When she’s scared or sad, they are a really dull, light brown. But when she is happy, they are the most beautiful shade of dark amber, with specks of green and gold mixed in. She has a scar that runs from just below her right ear over her collarbone to the middle of her chest from a run-in with a werewolf, but she always covers it with her clothes and her hair, particularly liking winter for the excuse to wear scarves.
Celebrity Being Used: Ginnifer Goodwin
Likes: Kathryn has a love for books that even Lily and Hermione can not match. Her love goes deeper then just wanting to learn; her books are her escape from everything. She also enjoys vanilla ice cream, banana nut bread, walking in the woods, watching the stars and/or clouds, being the only person in a library/book store and rainy days.
Dislikes: Kathryn hates being called Kat or Kathy. She cringes at the mistreatment of books and people, and will stand up for them before she would herself. She also hates dark allies/corridors/chambers and dark hooded figures that remind her of her past.
Strengths: Kathryn is an avid reader, able to devour a large book within a day. She has the uncanny ability to blend in to her surrounding (from years of practice of trying not to be noticed). She also is fairly good at practical spells and magic.
Weaknesses: On the other hand, combative, and even most defensive spells are past her, because she becomes to frightened, or distracted to be able to cast. Kath has a major disadvantage in the wizarding world; she never finished her final year at Hogwarts, so she may be classed as an under qualified witch. She also has a weakness of trying to protect people close to her, even if it does put her in harm’s way.
Personality: Kath is a very quiet, shy young woman, having gone through a lot in her childhood. She is very friendly when approached. But she tends to avoid confrontations with anyone that may cause trouble for her, unless it’s to defend a friend, or someone who is close to her. She is very smart, though it may not seem so with her quietness, and her lack of defensive ability. She may show signs of depression on occasion, but most of the time she is just a keep-to-herself kind of person. With her past, she would have problems if she wasn’t emotionally scarred.
History: Kathryn is the only daughter of Mary-Ann and Mark Dudley and younger sister of the Death Eater, Gary Dudley. The Dudleys come from a long line of purebloods, though they were never as popular as the Malfoys, Blacks, or Wesleys.
When she was but five years old, she witnessed her father murdered. She didn’t know who did it; just that he wore a dark cloak. A few short years later, just before she started at Hogwarts, the dark figure returned, this time attacking her mother and leaving her in fear for both their lives. Nightmares riddled her sleep, especially during particularly stressful times of Kath’s live.
She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, like her parents before her, and then, in her second year learnt that she had an older brother, whom would always know where to find her, and when he did, he would torture her for no reason. Later on in her schooling days, she figured out, partially, why her brother was bothering her. He blamed her for their parents sending him away to live with his uncle (even though it was his own choice), and for always being their “baby angel,” and he even had the nerve to put the blame of her father’s death on her. Midway through her final year, after the murder of her mother, she seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth, not returning for the rest of the year. During that time, she ‘lived’, if you can call it that, with her brother, in their parents’ run down cottage house, recovering from the shock of having found out that both her parents died at the hands of her brother, who was a Death Eater, like the uncle he went to live with.
Eventually, she managed to get away from her brother, and is now living in hiding, in London. She works in a very low profile book store, and has a basic, keep to herself routine, moving every few months to avoid being found again by her brother.
((Side note: If there is someone looking for a character idea, Kathryn’s brother is always an option. Let me know and we can agree on some more background information on him, or such, if you want.))
Let's See What You've Got
Role Play Sample: Kathryn pushed the trolley she ‘borrowed’ from King’s Cross train station down a side street of London. It held two trunks and a smaller suitcase; all of her worldly possessions. It was moving day … yet again. Kath sighed in dejection as she looked down at the scrap of paper she had pulled out of her pocket. Looking back up, she searched for the address that had been written down in her very neat handwriting. Is that it? she thought to herself, looking up at the apartment building across the street. Staring back at her was a large coat of arms above the doors of the only apartment on the street. It had to be, she thought, sighing as she maneuvered the trolley across the street.
She left the trolley outside the building, dragging her luggage in, one piece at a time. Leaving the trunks in the lobby, off to the side so they would be less noticeable, she carried her suitcase up the stairs up to the third floor. Slowly walking down the corridor, she eyed each door until she found 321. Her new home. Pulling out the key she received less then a week ago, she carefully unlocked the door and opened it inwards.
Inside the three room apartment, it was plain, grey and empty. It was advertised as fully furnished, but all that was in the main room was a short couch, a kitchen table and chair, and the partial kitchen (with sink, wood stove and icebox). She suspected the bedroom and bath would be the same, so she didn’t bother checking them out, just yet. Instead, she dropped her suitcase and went back downstairs to fetch her other luggage, having to take two more trips.
