(( Before you say it; Yes, I know that the beginning of this is from my try-out, but in case you hadn't read it, I figured that it would a) be a good starting place, as well as b) good background if you haven't read my try-out. )) Kathryn pushed the trolley she ‘borrowed’ from King’s Cross train station down a side street of London. It held two trunks and a smaller suitcase; all of her worldly possessions. It was moving day … yet again. Kath sighed in dejection as she looked down at the scrap of paper she had pulled out of her pocket. Looking back up, she searched for the address that had been written down in her very neat handwriting. Is that it? she thought to herself, looking up at the apartment building across the street. Staring back at her was a large coat of arms above the doors of the only apartment on the street. It had to be, she thought, sighing as she maneuvered the trolley across the street. She left the trolley outside the building, dragging her luggage in, one piece at a time. Leaving the trunks in the lobby, off to the side so they would be less noticeable, she carried her suitcase up the stairs up to the third floor. Slowly walking down the corridor, she eyed each door until she found 321. Her new home. Pulling out the key she received less then a week ago, she carefully unlocked the door and opened it inwards. Inside the three room apartment, it was plain, grey and empty. It was advertised as fully furnished, but all that was in the main room was a short couch, a kitchen table and chair, and the partial kitchen (with sink, wood stove and icebox). She suspected the bedroom and bath would be the same, so she didn’t bother checking them out, just yet. Instead, she dropped her suitcase and went back downstairs to fetch her other luggage, having to take two more trips. Once she got all her belongings into the appartment, she closed and locked the door and left the stuff where it was, for now. Then she explored some more (if you can really explore something as small as that appartment). She opened cupboards and the icebox, moving to the pantry/linen closet, and into the bedroom and bath in turn. She found little more then a few dishes and cookware, a can of soup, some raggity towels and a whole lot of dust. Going back to the kitchen, she pulled out a beaten copper pot and soup and made herself a pretty pitiful lunch, before settling down by the window, eating, and looking out at her cityscape view. What houses were around, she only saw the rooftops, among the store buildings. She pulled her hair back in frustration as she was unpacking after lunch. In doing so, she paused and thought a moment. She had always wanted a change, but was never brave enough to possibly making a mistake of cutting off her waist-length hair. Now, living on her own, vending for herself, she thought that she was ready. Finding a pair of scissors in her suitcase, she stood in front of the bathroom mirror trying to determine how short she should go. Then, raising the scissors, she carefully made the first snip. Moments later, Kath examined her new hair, surrounded in the cut locks of hair and surprisingly didn't hate it. She thought it looked good, though that was just her opinion. It was now chin length, though still curly, and framed her face nicely. And, a bonus she hadn't thought of before, Gary wouldn't recognize her! She smiled to herself as she tidied up the hair. Next on her list of things to do: shopping for food and household supplies. She checked the time figuring she still has a few hours before stores closed up for the day, and slipped on a light jacket, grabbed her purse and stepped out into the hall, only pausing to lock the door carefully behind her.

Of all the young students to have passed through the hallowed halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Kathryn ranked amongst Shirley and Marin in the 'Least Likely to Arrive at Remus' Flat' stakes. The woman was assumed dead, another statistic in the history of Hogwarts, another body and soul separated by an avada kedavra curse, so thoughtlessly cast. There had been much bloodshed that evening and Remus, and the fellow members of the Order of the Phoenix, could be pardoned for believing that a fatal amount had belonged to her, or that her body had instantly failed on impact with the killing curse.
The young wizard had begun to lose hope of a relationship, after a brief period of romancing a grand total of two women. For Remus, a woman, or a man for that matter, but a woman, in relation to people whose courtship he would accept, who could fall in love with a lycanthrope was a rarity. By the precise nature of the situation, therefore, Kathryn was not readily replaced.
Closing his diary, which tended to be his one outlet, for the Order were not a personal counselling service, Remus placed the leather-bound 'friend' on his table. The laundrette had closed, due to a severe malfunction with a number of the washing machines. He suspected a prank, smelling a rat, although perhaps less literally than might have been the case, had Peter been predisposed to practical joking. Less pay, more isolation, you could see why Remus was perhaps less thrilled.
He exited the flat, deciding upon a walk for a break in the monotony of day to day routine, and glanced at a woman who seemed so familiar. He approached her, hardly daring to believe it. "Kath!? Tell me you're not a crisis apparition!" He locked the door firmly behind him, for one could not tell which unsavoury characters roamed these halls.

Kathryn heard someone come out of their appartment, but didn't turn. She didn't want to call attention to herself, so she just kept walking. That is, until she heard her name. Not even just her name, her shortened nickname; Kath.
Nearly jumping out of her skin, she whirled around, hand on her hidden wand, looking to see who had said it. But instead of her worst nightmare, whom she had been expecting/fearing, it was the love of her life, whom she hadn't seen since she dropped out of Hogwarts in her final year. Someone she had lost all hope of seeing again, since she had been on the run.
"Remmy? I-I should hope not...," she said slowly, not believing her eyes. She shifted her hand a little but didn't want to lower her guard completely in case it was her brother in disguise. He had known about her relationship with Remus Lupin and hated it with every fiber of his being, because he believed that Kath, as much as he hated his sister, shouldn't be mixing lycan into their pure-blood line. It wouldn't be completely below him to set her up in order to regain her trust and kidnap her again.

A concerted effort on Gary Dudley's part would have had to have been made to produce a beam as genuine as the all-too-rare smile Remus was presently sporting, although Kathryn, during such darkening days (literally and metaphorically), could be forgiven for her suspicion of the man before her, although Remus did not immediately appreciate that. "I..." he seemed almost bashful, "I thought I'd never see you again!" The immediately re-smitten young man had deliberately declined to say 'I thought you were dead', because it could be misconstrued as an insult, suggesting he deemed her incapable of surviving a battle. Furthermore, if less savoury characters from Hogwarts were to overhear, a 'touching' reunion between muggles would meet their awaiting ears, as opposed to an assumption of death. One was far less likely, in the current political climate, to be assumed dead in the muggle world than in the wizarding world. Gradually, Remus recognised his girlfriend's suspicion for what it was, and mouthed, 'ask me any question.' He winked, to show her that he understood her fear.

Kathryn smiled back, the motion tight-lipped, as if she forgot how to do so. She rarely smiled anymore, not really ever having a reason to these days, though her hand never left her hip until she was sure it was him. "Nor I you. I thought... well," she sighed and bit her lip. She had seen the Death Mark over the school that night, and Gary had come home in a particularly cheery mood that night (which didn't last long when he didn't find dinner on the table waiting for him). She could only pray that her friends were safe, though she knew that many were not.
When she saw him mouthing for her to ask him anything, she nodded and thought for a moment, hand still on hip. "Hey! Do you remember when I gave you that nickname? Where were we, then?" She said quietly, looking at him with hope mixed with the apprehension. Please remember that night! she thought to herself. She knew she couldn't forget it. It was the night they had first kissed, and 'officially' started going together, though in secert. She was up in the Astronomy Tower, alone and thinking as she regularly did, and Remus was seeking much the same, but then they got talking; something the incredibly shy Kathryn never would have done otherwise. She had been crushing on Remus since their first year.

((I have no idea where the Astronomy classroom is so please assume this to be correct! Thank you!))
The matter of no muggle school offering Astronomy as a subject of study was a most difficult one to address. To say 'atop the Astronomy tower' would arouse suspicion in muggles and Death Eaters alike, "weren't we in that classroom, right at the top of East Wing, Kath? Didn't we learn about the canis majoris belt that day? Sirius and whatnot?" The 'Sirius' was so subtly accentuated it would not have been recognisable as an emphasis by a person overhearing, but the general idea was to demonstrate himself to be a wizard, one who was aquainted with Sirius Black at that, although truth be told Gary had almost certainly heard of Sirius and so it would not aid or hinder his case. For good measure, Remus added top of the Astronomy tower using mouthing alone. Shocking, two people in love, in reunion after the assumption that the other had died, were reduced to responding to questions to ensure that they were who they claimed to be. Voldemort had much to answer for!
He considered their frankly dire situation as he stood there in the corridor, Kathryn's hand on her hip, undoubtedly concealing a wand, prepared to curse him, should he not have offered the required response, although with such hints as he had given, he suspected Kathryn would be satisfied. Although Remus had become a fighter during the time which had elapsed since May 31, he considered it a poor show and dreadful ettiquette to ask a question of Kathryn. A gender-divide, perhaps, it was acceptable for a woman to ask a man a question, but not so for a man to ask a woman such a question designed to test their genuine identity.

((No prob.))
Kathryn frowned a little when he started on about the East Wing, not even thinking that Muggles wouldn't have Astronomy. But then, realizing her mistake, and that Remus was dancing around the question (very Remus-like), adding the straight up answer silently, she was pretty sure that he really was who she thought he was, for she hadn't told a soul about that night, and as far as she knew, neither did Remus.
The corners of her mouth turned up into a small smile and she dropped her hand from her hip. "Remus," she said breathlessly, trying to believe that this was real. She stepped forward and shyly hugged the only man she had ever loved, head resting on his shoulder. Tears filled her eyes and her smile grew. She may as well have been the happiest person on earth, but in these times, that wasn't saying much.
After a moment, she reluctantly stepped back and bit her lip. Shouldn't you ask me a question now?, she mouthed, unsure.

Remus offered her his trademark grin, stroking her beautiful hair, which was considerably shorter than the length he remembered from school. However, he could not fully appreciate the gorgeous creature enveloped within his arms for long, as she withdrew from his embrace and asked whether he should not ask her a question in return. Preposterous! Almost the first utterings between a reunited couple who loved each other dearly were to determine whether or not they were who they believed each other to be. Remus obliged however. After a moment's consideration, having rejected 'what is my nickname?' and 'when did Marin die?' for practically the entire student body of Hogwarts could successfully respond that his nickname was 'Moony', and Rodolphus and Bellatrix were capable of answering that the answer was 'Valentine's Day' he settled upon a fact that Kathryn would know, but no one more sinister than her (Peter Pettigrew not withstanding).
"Bit random, Kath, but, I was trying to remember this the other day," he winked, "you remember that piñata one of the guys made for my birthday? What the devil was its name?" He willed her to remember, desperately hoping she would respond with 'Sammy'. Would it be too difficult for her to recall? He was flexible and he prepared a second question that no Death Eater could respond to, primarily because if they could, his family would be dead. He intended to ask, 'oh, right, before I forget, the 'rents have asked to meet you, you remember where abouts they live, don't you?" The answer being Wolverhampton. However, it would be less pressure for Kath if she could respond 'Sammy' because otherwise she would likely panic, and you had to be quite a sick-minded individual to wish to scare your girlfriend.
"And on a lighter note, although, I'd still like you to put me out of my misery about that piñata," he grinned at her once more, "your hair looks gorgeous!" Although as it would happen, a simple avada kedavra would be his ultimate downfall, it might very well have been his love (read: adoration) for Kath that gave his enemies an advantage, because he did not seem capable of being suspicious of Kath. He would so much rather ask her about the past few months, how she was faring and tell her how joyful he was to see her than ask pointless questions about a piñata, or failing that, a city in the West Midlands. It all seemed so irrelevant, but he did understand that this person might not be his beloved school sweetheart. He waited, calmly, for her response. If, of course, she failed to respond to the second question, there could be a somewhat desperate situation, but it would in all likelihood not come to that.

((Hope some of my details are correct. It's been at while since the party and I don't have time to go back and look it up. If it's wrong, correct me )) Kathryn waited patiently as Remus came up with a question that would be able to identify her. As much as she wanted him to trust her, she knew that he should always be cautious. The last thing she wanted was for him to be duped by a Death Eater who knew about their relationship because he didn't ask a simple question. When he did though, she couldn't help but smile at the memory of the party. It wasn't exactly a care-free time then (though it was more so than now), but it was one of those short periods of time during which they allowed themselves to be free, even it was for only an hour or so. Remus's best friends had wanted to do something special, Sirius of course being the head of the idea, had made a piñata, and livened it up by enchanting it. But what was it's name? Kath felt bad for struggling and making Remus wait, and worry for the answer. "It was a snake. I remember that," she said, closing her eyes for a moment to bring the memory back to the forefront of her mind. "And it breathed fire... Sirius's idea." She blushed deep red as Remus complimented her hair. "Thanks. I thought it was time for a change," she said, shrugging slightly. "I've never had short hair before so it's kinda strange." She thought hard again, slight frown playing at her lips before she gasped, slight smile returning. "Sammy! Sammy the snake!" Kath cried, happy to have remembered it, praying that she remembered right. Closing the space between them again, she enveloped herself in Remus's arms. How she missed him. Everyday she had found something that would remind her of him. And everyday she had prayed that he wasn't one of the ones that perished during the battle at Hogwarts. Though she feared he had, she didn't want to believe it, for it would shatter her heart. She had and will never anyone else, and if she lost him... Her hug tightened slightly as she pushed back those thoughts. She refused to be sad right now. She was so happy and relieved to see Remus, alive and well. And still wanting her! After all this time he still loved her (as far as she could tell, and she hoped with all she had that she was right).

With a beam which could light these darkened, depressing halls, Remus replied, "oh, thank Heavens!" Realising that his response was abnormal, considering for all intents and purposes he had discovered that his girlfriend, with whom he had been reunited, recalled the name of a piñata, he added, "finally I can rest easy! It was driving me bonkers! I couldn't put my finger on that piñata's name you know!" He winked. He decided that the Death Eaters should not be granted the pleasure of ruining their reunion further; they had discussed a classroom and more bizarrely a piñata, after several months of separation. "So, erm, moving on from the pretty random topic of my 18th," the mentioned of his 18th birthday celebrations went in his favour, in fact, as any wizard or witch eavesdropping would assume him to be a muggle, since the coming of age birthday was 17 in the wizarding world, "I've missed you! And, by the way, Kath, I love you!"
He offered her a boyish grin, although he was far from immature; he felt rather glad he could say 'I love you' as not all men were capable of such a feat. However, he was still not certain of kissing ettiquette. Should he spontaneously lean in to kiss her or await her first move? Which message did it convey to Kath? The message he intended to convey was 'I love you', a romantic gesture from the depths of his heart, but the message it might well give to Kathryn was perhaps more bedroom-oriented. Remus was not a cheap or tacky man. He was no pig, Kathryn had chosen well, so 'come to bed' was the last message he was attempting to transmit. He reached for her hands, not wishing to pressure her. He leaned his face slightly towards her, and asked, "a welcome back into my life kiss?"

((Sorry it is kinda short...))
Kathryn laughed very quietly as Remus acted relieved about solving the name crisis, knowing he was really relieved about confirming her identity. The laugh bubbled up from her lips before she knew it was there, the sound ringing in the air around them, almost foreign-like. Her little body shook slightly with the effort against Remus's. But as quickly as it started, it was cut short with a small gasp. Kath put a hand at her throat with a look of perplexity on her face. She couldn't remember the last time she laughed and the sound startled her because it was so strange to her.
She looked up at Remus, who was still smiling, looking down at her.Kath returned his smile with one of her own, and it grew even more when she heard his proclamation. Momentarily speechless, she rested her head against him, sighing happily. "I love you too," she said quietly before looking him in the face again. Hands in his, she nodded shyly before moving towards him herself. Her eyes slid closed as their lips met and the world stopped turning for that moment. She was in heaven, even for just a little while. A single tear rolled down her cheek and when she opened her eyes they were shining in happiness.

In Remus' eyes, there was a touch of moisture, a physical manifestation of his emotion, his relief that Kathryn had survived the ordeal that had been the first battle of many to come. Oh, he was far from the shy boy that he had been at Hogwarts, the boy who accepted torture with a smile, who had such a minimal level of self-confidence and concept of self-worth, but, even during his final years, he would retain much of the romantic, emotional young man within him at this very moment. He wiped her tear away gently, itself an act of romance and love.
It seemed, without his immediate notice, that the world had become far brighter and less full of despair and dullness. Whilst the people residing either side of him would continue to watch situation comedies and football matches, whilst the hall would continue to smell of bleach and instant noodles, and whilst the furniture and appliances continued to be on barely the right side of functioning, it did not matter one iota. He did wonder whether he should invite her into his apartment, or whether that would automatically imply to her that they should 'retire to the bedroom', so to speak.
Remus was not adverse to that type of activity; he was experienced but he was by no means as 'wham, bam, thank you mam' as many men of his age. However, he firmly believed that it should be the lady's decision and he would be mortified if Kathryn thought it was all that interested him. Meeting after several months apart and your intention was to engage in a little 'dot dot dot'? How much of a street rat did he wish to be?!
"I'm overcome," he admitted. His heart was utterly brimming with love for Kathryn, his wild mind racing, live with me, marry me. How ridiculous! They had been in a relationship since March and already he was considering cohabitating! He dismissed it as a random, nonsensical thought, not worth entertaining. "I'm a sop," he paused, then grinned, "and proud! Now, where shall we go? What do you feel like doing now, Kath? I'm completely open, you name your pleasure." Kath would surely realise that Remus was short on the dough, as he was living in this apartment, so presumably she would not select an expensive activity.

Kathryn felt his gentle hand brush the wetness from her cheek and she blushed. She didn't mean to cry, but she was so happy; so relieved that he was safe and that they had found each other again that it was too much for her to keep inside. She hoped that he wouldn't take her tears as sadness and worry himself that he did something wrong. They were definitely tears of joy, her smile making that clear. "Me too," she whispered, not trusting her voice to hold if she spoke any louder. Not that she needed to anyways. The only person that needed to hear what she was saying was right in front of her. Touching his face softly with one hand, she smiled up at him. "It's okay, Remmy. No one will know but me."
When Remus spoke of them doing something now, she remembered that she had been on the way out the door to do something, but now couldn't remember what it was. Wracking her brain, her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she tried to recall her intentions before having seen Remus.
"I honestly cannot remember what I left to do, but.." she glanced at her watch, "stores are closing about now, so I'll just have to wait until morning. Which pretty much clears up my evening also." She didn't want to seem like she was inviting herself over to his place, not wanting to be pushy or implying they should, you know. But she also knew that her apartment was still a mess from having just moved in. "Did you want to go for a walk or something? I don't really know this area that well, so I will have to trust you to show me around." When she spoke of trusting him, she meant a lot more then just about him not getting her lost. She was relaying to him that she trusted him completely.
